MegaHouse: Super Granzort / Aquabeat / Winzert

Madō King Granzort (魔動王グランゾート) was one of those shows I loved as a kid, and the merchandise available was sparse after its run was over.

These figures are the 3 robots in their powered-up forms of the main protagonists of the show. They’re probably also the most frustrating figures in my collection! Given it’s price point (retails for around 6,500 yen each), they’re flimsy, with loose articulation with parts falling off left and right. Despite the figure’s overall floppy nature, the alternative hands are for some reason, extremely tight and difficult to swap.

And whilst the sculpt is all fine and dandy, they’re difficult to pose, and they’re not figures I’d like to take out from the cabinet every now and then again once they’ve settled in.

A couple of years ago, Kotobukiya released the regular Granzort in a slightly smaller scale with matte finish, which was a much more impressive figure overall compared to this. I even got a second one when it was re-issued. Overall, these were a real let down, especially considering what Bandai could hand out with Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru in their Robot Spirits at this price point.

Now that this is all out of the way, there’s another thing off my childhood wishlist I can tick off. I can probably also tick-off buying a Megahouse item ever again.
